Newcastle United reportedly target Belgium manager Roberto Martinez as a replacement for Steve Bruce at St. James' Park.

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has reportedly been lined up for the vacant managerial role at Newcastle United.

The new Saudi-led ownership parted with previous boss Steve Bruce earlier in October, and they have been on the hunt for a replacement since, with interim manager Graeme Jones guiding the side in the meantime.

According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies have now eyed Martinez as the ideal candidate to take over at St. James' Park, with a £2m fee reportedly adequate to capture the Spaniard.

While Jones will continue to lead the club in the short term, he is said to be expecting a reunion with Martinez, whom he served as an assistant manager for at Swansea City, Wigan Athletic, Everton and in the early stages of his Belgium reign.

After leaving Goodison Park in 2016, the Spaniard has been in charge of the Red Devils for five years, leading them to the summit of the world rankings, and he has now become the manager to oversee the most victories with the national team.
