The proposed deal to take Timo Werner to Chelsea will reportedly be worth £52m in wages over a five-year spell, making him the club's highest-paid player.

Timo Werner will become Chelsea's highest-earning player should his proposed move to Stamford Bridge go through.

The Premier League club are understood to have beaten domestic rivals Liverpool and Manchester United to the signature of the RB Leipzig striker, who was also linked with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Chelsea have reportedly triggered Werner's €60m (£53.8m) release clause and agreed terms on a five-year contract which will see him earn £200,000 per week.

Those terms would catapult Werner to the top of the list of Chelsea's highest earners, with Kepa Arrizabalaga and N'Golo Kante currently on the most lucrative deals at Stamford Bridge.

The duo earn £150,000 per week in West London to give an annual salary of £7.8m - some way short of Werner's reported potential earnings of £10.4m per year.

Over the full five-year contract that deal would see the 24-year-old earn £52m, just short of the figure it will take Chelsea to bring him to the club.

Werner has directly contributed to 43 goals in just 40 games this season, scoring 31 times and creating a further 12.
