Tottenham Hotspur reportedly sent a scout to assess the qualities of Villarreal defender Pau Torres against Liverpool earlier this week.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to up their interest in Villarreal defender Pau Torres.

Last summer, the centre-back shunned the opportunity to move to a bigger club to represent Villarreal in the Champions League, a decision which paid off as the Yellow Submarine reached the semi-finals.

However, with Villarreal out of that competition and almost certain to miss out on qualification for 2022-23, it appears likely that the 25-year-old will move to a bigger club.

According to the Daily Mail, Spurs sent scouts to watch Torres perform against Liverpool in the second leg of their European tie in midweek.

Those in attendance would have been impressed with how Torres performed during the first hour of the contest until a stirring Liverpool comeback saw them concede three goals in quick succession.

Despite that disappointment, Spurs are still expected to move for the player, who has a £55m release clause in his contract.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also being tipped to make an official approach for the Spain international as they look to improve their own backlines.
