Cristiano Ronaldo has taken to social media to rubbish reports linking him with a return to Sporting Lisbon.

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has quashed rumours linking him with a return to Sporting Lisbon.

The Portuguese giants are one of a number of sides that have been touted as a potential destination for Ronaldo, who has reportedly expressed a desire to leave Manchester United this summer.

Ronaldo previously spent time at his boyhood club in the 2002-03 season, scoring five goals in 31 appearances before making the move England for his first spell with the Red Devils.

Rumours began circulating online that the 37-year-old could return to the Portuguese club this summer after a picture of a car in the garage of Estadio Jose Alvalade was believed to be Ronaldo's by Sport TV Portugal, who posted the photo on Instagram.

However, the Portugal international rubbished those rumours by commenting under the post: "Fake."

Despite the reply, speculation continues to circulate about Ronaldo's future, with the striker currently training at home after being given permission to miss United's pre-season tour due to a family issue.
