Real Madrid tell Marco Asensio's agent Jorge Mendes that they have no intention of offering the attacker a new contract, according to a report.

Real Madrid have reportedly told Marco Asensio's agent Jorge Mendes that they have no intention of offering the attacker a new contract at this moment in time.

The 26-year-old was a regular for Los Blancos during the 2021-22 campaign, making 42 appearances in all competitions, contributing 12 goals and two assists in the process.

Asensio's current deal is due to expire next June, though, and there has been a host of speculation surrounding his future over the last few weeks.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and AC Milan are all said to be showing an interest in the Spain international during this summer's transfer window.

According to Marca, Asensio has been given the chance to decide his future, with Los Blancos open to letting him leave for the right price in the current market.

The report claims that during a recent meeting, the attacker's agent Mendes was informed that Real Madrid are not looking to offer Asensio a new deal at this moment.

As a result, the Spaniard has been given the chance to decide his future, either stay at Bernabeu for the final year of his contract or seek a move away in the current market.

Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti is allegedly calm over the situation and would have no issue picking Asensio next season even if he were planning on leaving on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.

The attacker is not certain of a spot in the Spain squad for the 2022 World Cup, but he was involved in their UEFA Nations League fixtures last month, providing assists in their two matches with the Czech Republic.

Asensio is allegedly 'on the table for many of the sporting directors' around Europe, although Milan and Liverpool are thought to be the two main contenders at this stage.

Asensio has scored 49 goals and registered 24 assists in 235 appearances for Real Madrid since arriving from Mallorca in 2014, winning three La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns.

After spending the 2015-16 campaign on loan with Espanyol, the attacker became a first-team regular for Los Blancos, impressing during the 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.

However, he only featured 10 times during the 2019-20 campaign, having suffered a serious knee injury in a pre-season clash with Arsenal in July 2019, and he has struggled to show his best form since.

Asensio has netted 19 goals over the last two campaigns, though, and only Karim Benzema (44) and Vinicius Junior (22) outscored him for Los Blancos last term.

Real Madrid would allegedly be looking for around £35m to sell Asensio this summer, although Milan are thought to be looking to bring that price down.
