Manchester United are not reportedly close to agreeing a deal to appoint former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards.

Manchester United are reportedly not close to agreeing a deal for former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards.

Edwards played a key role at Anfield, helping transform Liverpool alongside Jurgen Klopp and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon, but he decided to leave his position in the summer.

Although he is currently on a sabbatical after spending 11 years with the Reds, a recent report suggested Man United were interested in appointing him as their sporting director.

However, according to Sky Sports News, Edwards is not closing in on a deal to join United, who are happy with their existing structure.

The Red Devils believe that their scouting and recruitment process has been improved since the arrival of John Murtough as director of football, and although further changes could be made to the club's hierarchy, there is no immediate desire to appoint Edwards.

The former Liverpool employee has held talks with Chelsea over a potential CEO of Football role, but he is expected to remain on his sabbatical until at least next summer.
