Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat hints at a summer move to the Premier League amid claims that Manchester United want to sign him.

Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has hinted at a summer move to the Premier League amid claims that Manchester United are keen to sign him in the upcoming market.

The 26-year-old has again been in strong form for Fiorentina this season, featuring on 48 occasions in all competitions, and he will be bidding to help his side win the Europa Conference League on Wednesday night.

Amrabat only has another year left to run on his contract, though, and there has been widespread speculation surrounding his future in recent months.

Barcelona, having failed with a January move, are expected to reignite their interest this summer, but Man United are also believed to be keen to sign him ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

The Morocco international has branded the Premier League "a fantastic league" and believes that the "intensity" in England's top flight would 'suit his game'.

"Of course, the Premier League is a fantastic league, one of the strongest in the world," Amrabat told reporters ahead of Fiorentina's clash with West Ham United in the Europa Conference League final.

"It would be nice to play there one day, but it's not that I want only to go to England, because Spain is nice, Serie A is a nice league.

"Football has changed a lot, it's more physical, you have more to be an athlete, the tempo and intensity is higher. Of course, in England the intensity is very high, so I think it could suit me."

Amrabat played a key role in Morocco reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, with his performances believed to have led to a host of clubs expressing an interest.

Following the tournament in Qatar, Amrabat's brother Nordin Amrabat said that he is expecting a number of clubs to be in the running for the midfielder's signature this year.

"I am really incredibly proud of Sofyan," he told Dutch outlet De Telegraaf. "When you play so well on such a stage – in three matches against countries like Croatia, Belgium and Canada – you have a lot going for you.

"I think the top clubs in Europe who have been sleeping have now woken up. In January (2022), Sofyan himself was already in talks with Tottenham Hotspur, but there was no agreement on the transfer fee with Fiorentina. I think the interested parties will now line up."

Amrabat made the move to Fiorentina from Club Brugge in 2020, and he has represented the club on 106 occasions in all competitions, scoring once and providing one assist.

Man United are expected to sign at least one new central midfielder this summer, with Fred and Scott McTominay potentially both being allowed to leave Old Trafford.
