England captain Harry Kane is open to signing a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur, according to a report.

Harry Kane is reportedly open to signing a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur, with the England captain believing that the club are now heading in the right direction under Antonio Conte.

The centre-forward was strongly linked with a move to Manchester City during last summer's transfer window, but the Citizens were ultimately priced out of a deal for the Englishman.

Man City will not be returning for Kane this summer, having agreed to sign Erling Braut Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, but Manchester United have been linked with the 28-year-old in recent months.

Kane ended the 2021-22 campaign with 27 goals and 10 assists in 50 appearances for Spurs, including 17 goals and nine assists in the Premier League, as Conte's side finished fourth in the table.

The forward's agreement at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium only has two years left to run, and there has recently been speculation surrounding his future, with the North London club facing a battle to make themselves title challengers due to the presence of Man City and Liverpool.

However, according to the Evening Standard, Kane is happy at the club and is open to discussing a new long-term contract in the English capital.

The report claims that the forward is 'excited' by Tottenham's progress under Conte and believes that the club have a strong chance of winning a trophy next season.

Kane played the full 90 minutes of Tottenham's 5-0 win over Norwich City in the Premier League last weekend, scoring once and providing one assist against the Canaries.

The striker ended the 2021-22 league season with four goals in his last three appearances against Arsenal, Burnley and Norwich, with the North London side managing to secure fourth and a return to the Champions League for next term.

Kane has now found the back of the net on 248 occasions in 386 appearances for Spurs in all competitions, in addition to contributing 59 assists.

Earlier this month, the England captain hailed Conte's work since arriving as head coach last November, with the Italian boasting a record of 21 wins, five draws and 10 defeats from 36 matches.

"There is still a lot of work to do. I think the improvement has definitely been there since the gaffer came in to where we are now," Kane told the Evening Standard. "It shows it can be done in a short space of time, but obviously we will see what happens over the summer and look forward to the next season with a great manager. Hopefully we've learnt a lot since he's been here.

"I have no idea [about Conte's future] to be honest, that is his decision. But he has worked really hard while he has been here, he's a great guy, a really passionate man so whatever his decision is you have to respect it. But for sure I am enjoying it and I know the boys are enjoying working with him.

"I have said I am a big fan of his and we get on really well so of course it would be great for the club if he stays. But like I have said that is his decision, he's his own man, and I'm sure he will talk to the club and decide on his future. From our point of view we are all enjoying working with him."

The forward has been Tottenham's leading goalscorer in each of the last eight seasons, while he is now only 18 goals behind Jimmy Greaves, who is the club's all-time highest goalscorer with 266.

Kane is fifth in the all-time list for Premier League goalscorers, meanwhile, with Alan Shearer (260), Wayne Rooney (208), Andy Cole (187) and Sergio Aguero (184) ahead of him.
