Ralf Rangnick rejected Manchester United's first offer for his services before agreeing to take charge of the club on an interim basis, according to a report.

Ralf Rangnick reportedly rejected Manchester United's first offer for his services before agreeing to take charge of the club on an interim basis for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign.

The 63-year-old has allegedly accepted a managerial role with the 20-time English champions until May, when he will then move into a consultancy role for the club.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the former RB Leipzig manager rejected an initial approach from the Red Devils before being offered new terms, which were accepted.

Rangnick, who is currently head of sports and development at Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow, could potentially be in the Man United dugout for the clash with Arsenal on December 2.

The English giants are said to be determined to appoint Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino as their long-term replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the club set to step up their pursuit of the Argentine this summer.

Michael Carrick oversaw a 2-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday and will again lead Man United in Sunday's Premier League clash with Chelsea.
