Villarreal boss Unai Emery is likely to become a managerial target for Manchester United, according to a report.

Villarreal boss Unai Emery is likely to become a candidate for the Manchester United managerial job, according to German journalist Christian Falk.

The Red Devils, who sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday, are thought to have identified Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino as their leading target for the role at Old Trafford.

However, the club are also looking at alternatives to the Argentine, and according to Falk, Emery is expected to be in the running for the job.

There has reportedly not yet been any contact between the two parties, though, with Man United currently working to appoint an interim manager for the rest of the season.

Former Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has seemingly emerged as the favourite to take on the role, which is currently being held by Michael Carrick.

Emery, who recently rejected the chance to become Newcastle United's new manager, was in charge of Arsenal between May 2018 and November 2019 before taking over at Villarreal in July 2020.

The 50-year-old has won four Europa League titles during his managerial career, in addition to lifting the Ligue 1 title during his time in charge of Paris Saint-Germain.
