Head coach Thomas Frank admits that the manner in which Brentford scored four goals in 25 first-half minutes against Manchester United was "unreal".

Head coach Thomas Frank has described the manner in which Brentford posted a 4-0 victory against Manchester United as "crazy".

With United having suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, the Bees would have been optimistic of recording a similar result in the capital.

However, Brentford produced one of the greatest performances in their history, recording their biggest top-flight victory for 84 years.

Each of their four goals came during a 25-minute period during the first half, the opening strike from Josh Dasilva somehow finding its way into the bottom corner through David de Gea's hands.

A mix-up in the United defence allowed Mathias Jensen to double that advantage before Ben Mee bundled the ball home from close range after a set piece had been headed back across the box.

Brentford's best goal was saved until last, Ivan Toney playing a quite stunning pass into the path of Bryan Mbeumo who held off Luke Shaw and capped off a ruthless counter-attack.

While Frank insisted that he had not been left surprised to collect three points, the Dane acknowledged that it was not possible to predict the ruthlessless of his team during the first half.

Speaking to BBC Match Of The Day, Frank said: "I was very pleased, very proud of the performance. To beat Manchester United 4-0 - biggest club in the world, world-class players - makes some remarkable memories for the Brentford fans here. It's crazy. In some way unreal.

"It's no surprise that we win today because I know we're good. Maybe it wasn't a 4-0 game. We deserved to win, but it wasn't a 4-0. I really hope that people look into our performance and give us credit, because if you win 4-0 you must be doing something good."

Brentford had particular joy from set pieces and when attempting to get Mbeumo and Toney in behind the United backline, a strategy which Frank alluded to in a separate interview with Sky Sports.

Franks said: "The defensive part of it, I thought we did brilliantly. Very aggressive and brave, and pressed high. I think that helped very much. Of course, we are forced back sometimes and have a fantastic low block.

"We were very good on set pieces, which is a thing we know we have to do very well and then pbviously we knew that we had to try to play into our strengths with the longer ball."

Brentford end the day sitting in third position in the Premier League table, while United are bottom ahead of a fixture against rivals Liverpool in nine days time.
