Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain 'expect Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona next summer'

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain expect Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi to move on next summer, according to a report.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are both reportedly of the opinion that Lionel Messi will leave Barcelona on a free transfer next summer.

The 33-year-old attempted to secure a move away from Camp Nou in the recent transfer window, but the Catalan giants were not prepared to let him depart.

Messi's deal with Barca will expire next summer, though, and the Argentina international will be free to seek pastures new if he does not agree a new contract.

Man City and PSG have both been strongly linked with the South American, and according to 90min, both clubs are confident that the attacker will move on at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Earlier this year, it was claimed that Messi could join Pep Guardiola's side for three seasons before moving to North America to represent New York City FC, who are also part of the City Football Group.

The attacker scored his 643rd goal for Barca against Valencia on Saturday, moving him level with Brazil legend Pele in terms of strikes for a single club.
