Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo says that his club are no closer to a potential deal for Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi.

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has insisted that the French champions are no closer to a potential deal for Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

The capital giants are believed to have identified the 33-year-old as a possible replacement for Kylian Mbappe, with the France international's future at Parc des Princes far from secure.

Messi's contract with Barca is due to expire at the end of June, but the Argentina international will allegedly soon hold talks with the Catalan giants over a possible extension.

Leonardo has revealed that his club are "attentive" to the situation but are currently more focused on renewing the contracts of the likes of Mbappe and Neymar.

"We're attentive but there's nothing new at the moment," Leonardo told RMC Sports when questioned on a possible move for Messi. "The idea is to renew the players that we already have. Nothing outside of that has been planned. We have to look at our financial results for the season too."

Manchester City are also thought to be firmly in the hunt for the South American.
