Terry McDermott insists that Liverpool's owners were wrong to sack Kenny Dalglish this afternoon.

Former Liverpool midfielder Terry McDermott believes that the club were wrong to sack Kenny Dalglish this afternoon.

Dalglish was relieved of his duties at Anfield after the club's owners decided that the 61-year-old had taken the team as far as possible.

However, McDermott believes that his former teammate deserved more time at the helm.

"I haven't spoken to him. I'm shocked, disappointed and saddened," McDermott told BBC Radio Five Live. "It was unwarranted. They could have given him longer - maybe until Christmas.

"They pulled the trigger and prematurely in my view. Whoever comes in has to be top drawer."

Dalglish released a statement earlier today in which he revealed that it had been an "honour and a privilege" to manage to club for a second time.
