Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be out to avoid an unwanted winless record when the Reds tackle Leeds United at Elland Road in Monday's Premier League fixture.

The Merseyside giants' Champions League hopes are hanging by the thinnest of threads thanks to a dismal spell of form in the top flight, taking just two points from their last four fixtures.

Liverpool's away day misfortunes bedevilled them in 1-0 and 4-1 losses to Bournemouth and Manchester City, which came either side of their slender Bernabeu defeat to Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 affair.

Klopp's side managed to snap that run of defeats with a drab goalless stalemate away to Chelsea on April 4, five days before coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with league leaders Arsenal at Anfield.

The Gunners had two last-gasp Aaron Ramsdale saves to thank for their point against Liverpool, whose winless run across all tournaments now stands at five matches since their 7-0 embarrassment of Manchester United.

Should Liverpool fail to beat Leeds on Monday night, it will mark the first time that they have gone six games without a victory since Klopp took charge in 2015.

The Reds have not endured a longer winless streak since the 2010-11 season, going seven games without a triumph under Roy Hodgson between September and October 2010.

During the final days of Brendan Rodgers's tenure, Liverpool failed to win in five successive matches between August and September 2015, and the sixth game in that sequence saw them draw 1-1 with Carlisle United in the EFL Cup before going through on penalties.

Klopp is no stranger to six-game winless streaks either, as his Borussia Dortmund side suffered an identical run without success between December 2014 and February 2015, in what proved to be his final year in charge.

Furthermore, Liverpool make the journey to Elland Road having lost three and drawn two of their last five away contests - scoring just once in that time - and they have just three top-flight wins on the road all season long.

Klopp's men have gleaned 13 points from a possible 45 on rival territory this season - the 13th-best record in the Premier League - while their only Anfield defeat in the league so far this term came at the hands of Leeds back in October.

However, not since November 2000 have Leeds beaten Liverpool at Elland Road in the Premier League, prevailing 4-3 thanks to Mark Viduka's astonishing quartet of strikes.

Liverpool will continue to make do without Stefan Bajcetic (adductor), Calvin Ramsay (knee), and Naby Keita (muscle) for the clash with Javi Gracia's side, while Alisson Becker and Ibrahima Konate will also need assessing due to knocks.

On a more positive note, Klopp has confirmed that Luis Diaz will be in the squad for the first time since sustaining a serious knee injury six months ago.

Liverpool occupy eighth place in the Premier League table ahead of Monday's showdown, 12 points adrift of Manchester United in the final Champions League berth.
