Former Liverpool defender Alan Kennedy believes that the club will struggle to finish in the top six this season.

Former Liverpool defender Alan Kennedy has predicted that the club will struggle to finish in the top six this season following their poor start to the campaign.

Two points from their opening four games have seen the Merseysiders get off to their worst start in the league since 1911.

"Top six would be great I think, but whether we can do that this season remains to be seen," Kennedy told talkSPORT.

"It was always going to be a difficult start to the season, we've got the European games and we've had a difficult start with Man City, Arsenal and of course Man United next week.

"We've got to get on with it, we've got to do well until January when hopefully the manager has a couple of players he wants to bring into the club."

Liverpool host rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
