Juventus announce that midfielder Manuel Locatelli has signed a new long-term contract at the club until the summer of 2028.

Juventus have confirmed that midfielder Manuel Locatelli has renewed his contract until the end of the 2027-28 season.

The 25-year-old spent two years on loan with Massimiliano Allegri's side from Sassuolo, who then sold him to the Bianconeri permanently for €30m (Β£26.2m) this summer.

Since arriving in Turin two years ago, Locatelli has already racked up over a century of appearances for Juventus, turning out 103 times and coming up with four goals and eight assists.

The Italy international - who was a part of his nation's triumphant Euro 2020 squad - has started all 11 of his side's Serie A matches so far this season, scoring the winner against former club AC Milan on October 22.

Before committing himself to Juventus in 2021, Locatelli was strongly linked with a move to Premier League giants Arsenal, but the Old Lady have now tied down their midfield fulcrum for the long-term.

Speaking to Juve's social media channels after putting pen to paper on his new deal, the 25-year-old said: "Hi guys, I'm really happy and satisfied to have renewed my contract.

"This shirt means everything to me, and I really feel at home here. I love you all lots, sending you a big hug, and, as always, Forza Juve!"

Locatelli has become the ninth Juventus player to have his contract extended in 2023 following renewals for Danilo, Wojciech Szczesny, Adrien Rabiot, Federico Gatti, Fabio Miretti, Kenan Yildiz, Carlo Pinsoglio and Arkadiusz Milik.

Rabiot's terms only run until the end of the current campaign, but Juve are now expected to turn their attention to a fresh deal for the Frenchman, who has long been linked with a move to Manchester United.

A recent report claimed that the Bianconeri are confident of agreeing a new contract with Rabiot, which would be another much-needed midfield boost following the Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli scandals.

Pogba remains suspended by the club pending the outcome of a doping investigation, having tested positive for non-endogenous testosterone earlier this season, and the Frenchman could have his contract terminated if he is given a lengthy ban.

Meanwhile, the Italian FA suspended Fagioli for seven months in October due to the midfielder's involvement in illegal gambling, and Juventus are being tipped to target a new midfielder in January amid links with Arsenal's Thomas Partey, Tottenham Hotspur's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips.

Allegri's men sit second in the Serie A table - two points behind leaders Inter Milan - and return to action with a home clash against newly-promoted Cagliari on Saturday evening.
