Belgian Georges Leekens named as new national coach of Hungary

Belgian manager Georges Leekens is named as the new national coach of Hungary following the recent departure of Bernd Stock.

Belgian manager Georges Leekens has been announced as the new head coach of Hungary.

The Hungarian Football Association recently parted ways with German Bernd Stock following the country's failure to qualify for the World Cup in Russia next year, leading to the appointment of 68-year-old Leekens.

Leekens already has experience of managing at international level, following two terms as Belgium manager alongside stints at both Algeria and Tunisia.

"I cannot guarantee success, only hard work," Leekens said following his appointment. "I will put together a team that will fight till the end to get to the next European Championship through the qualifiers."

Hungary were runners-up in both the 1938 and 1954 World Cups, but have failed to qualify for the showpiece since 1986.
