Ligue 1 bottom side Guingamp shock Marseille

Ligue 1 bottom club Guingamp secure their first win of the season with a shock 2-0 victory over Marseille at Stade Municipal De Roudourou.

Guingamp have moved off the bottom of the Ligue 1 table after recovery from an early penalty miss to secure a surprise 2-0 victory over Marseille at Stade Municipal De Roudourou.

Guingamp came into the match bottom of the league after failing to even score in three defeats to start the season, but they were given a golden opportunity to end that drought inside the first minute.

Lassana Diarra brought down Jimmy Briand inside the box but after a lengthy delay Sloan Privat saw his effort superbly saved by Steve Mandanda.

Briand fired over from distance as Guingamp looked to make up for the miss, before Moustapha Diallo headed narrowly over with Mandanda beaten.

Marseille finally began to exert some pressure of their own midway through the first half when Benjamin Mendy's header and Remy Cabella's shot from distance were both saved by Jonas Lossl, before Briand responded with another effort for the hosts.

Michy Batshuayi's effort on the turn drew another fine save from Lossl as the teams headed into the half-time interval with the visitors firmly on top.

Nicolas Benezet nearly broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion just before the hour mark when his attempted lob from the outside the area was stopped by Mandanda, before Diallo again failed to find the target with a close-range header.

Privat atoned for his penalty miss with 18 minutes remaining by breaking the deadlock for Guingamp, firing past Mandanda after being fed by Briand in the penalty area.

Batshuayi and Javier Manquillo were both denied by Lossl as the visitors pushed for an equaliser, but Benezet struck from outside the box with a minute remaining to seal a first win of the season for Guingamp.
