Sports Mole dissects the action as Getafe record a 1-0 win over Real Mallorca on Monday.

Getafe secured just their second league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Real Mallorca on Monday.

The away side started the better, but they were reduced to 10 men after 10 minutes when Ximo Navarro was shown a red card for a challenge on Diego Castro.

The only goal of the match came early in the second period when Castro finished from close range, but Mallorca had two clear chances to rescue a point late on.

Here, Sports Mole dissects the 90 minutes of action between the two La Liga rivals.

Match statistics:

Getafe:
Shots 14
On target 6
Possession 71%
Corners 12
Fouls 18

Mallorca:
Shots 10
On target 4
Possession 29%
Corners 2
Fouls 11

Was the result fair?

On the balance of play, you would have to say yes. The statistics, in terms of possession and attempts, tell their own story, but it could have been so different. Mallorca started the match in confident fashion and with control of the ball, but they retreated deeper and deeper following the red card.

Getafe's performance

6/10. It was hardly vintage from Getafe, but they secured all three points to move away from the relegation zone. They were almost made to rue their missed chances when Mallorca went close towards the end, but they held on for the win.

Mallorca's performance

3/10. It is difficult to judge Mallorca after they were reduced to 10 men so early in the match. They began the evening with the look of a side who had not lost a league game this season, but they were disappointing with and without the ball as the match developed. Despite their two late chances, they didn't create anywhere near enough to deserve something from the tie.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Diego Castro: It was hardly an evening for standout performances, but the goalscorer took his effort well and dominated the ball in the middle of the park.

Biggest gaffe of the match

Jose Nunes had two glorious chances to level for Mallorca late on, but he fired them both wide of the target.

Referee performance

Jose Luis Paradas Romero‎ had a fairly successful 90 minutes of action. However, his decision to dismiss Ximo for a high challenge on Castro will be called into question. It was a bit of a nothing tackle.

What next?

Getafe: Getafe will attempt to continue their winning run when they face Real Zaragoza in the league next Saturday.

Mallorca: Mallorca will attempt to return to winning ways in the league when they face Granada at home next Sunday.
