Empoli fight back to earn draw against Genoa

Empoli maintain their impressive recent form in Serie A by claiming a 1-1 draw against Genoa.

Empoli came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Genoa and stretch their unbeaten run in Serie A to five matches.

In the 27th minute, Genoa took the lead through M'Baye Niang, who collected Andrea Bertolacci's throw-in and drove into the box before firing a strike into the bottom corner.

Early in the second half, Simone Verdi wasted a promising chance for the hosts when he was found in space by Mario Rui, only to lash his effort wide of the post.

Empoli continued to press forward in search of an equaliser and they drew level in the 66th minute when Federico Barba turned the ball in from close range, after Mirko Valdifiori's corner appeared to have already crossed the line.

With four minutes left to play, Massimo Maccarone almost snatched the winner for the hosts, but his powerful strike was beaten behind by Mattia Perin as the game finished level.
