Jairo Arrieta earns DC United point against nine-man New England Revolution

The New England Revolution take a point from their MLS clash against DC United despite being reduced to nine men for the final 30 minutes of the match.

Jairo Arrieta scored a late goal to earn DC United a 1-1 draw against the nine-man New England Revolution.

The home side were the first to threaten when Lee Nguyen found space down the flank and lifted a cross into the middle for London Woodberry, but he could only head his effort over the bar.

The Revolution pressed forward again as Jermaine Jones teed up Nguyen to fire a strike from the edge of the box, but his shot sailed just over the bar.

New England took the lead on the stroke of half time as Juan Agudelo found space inside the box to fire at goal. Bill Hamid made a good save to deny the striker, but Charlie Davies was on hand to pounce on the rebound and find the net.

In the second half, the Revolution were reduced to 10 men when Chris Tierney was sent off for a rash challenge on Chris Pontius as the two players clashed for the ball.

DC almost took advantage of the situation as Chris Rolfe charged towards the New England goal, but his effort went just over the bar.

The home side lost their second player to a red card as Nguyen was given his marching orders when he received a second yellow for a foul on Davy Arnaud.

Despite being reduced to nine men, the Revolution came close to doubling their lead as Kelyn Rowe picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and rifled an effort just past the target.

United found their equaliser in the 80th minute as Taylor Kemp put a low ball across the face of goal, where Arrieta managed to steer the ball past Bobby Shuttleworth into the net.

The visitors pushed for a winner, but the home side managed to hold out to earn a point.
