Chelsea captain John Terry considering "different role"

Chelsea captain John Terry is mulling over the offer of a one-year contract extension which includes "a different role" with the club.

Chelsea skipper John Terry has said that he will need time to consider the club's one-year contract extension.

The 35-year-old appeared to be leaving the Blues after over 20 years on the club's books when he announced in February that he would not be offered a deal and there would be no fairytale ending this summer.

However, the West London club confirmed yesterday that Terry had been offered a new one-year deal to stay at Stamford Bridge for another season.

Given that Terry had expressed his desire to remain at the club, he is expected to sign the contract but revealed last night that it is for a "different role".

He wrote on Instagram: "Thanks to everyone for the kind wishes.

"The contract extension the club has offered me is a different role and I hope everyone will understand I want to take the time to consider it carefully before making a decision."

It has been reported that the new deal is for less pay and linked to appearances made, so Terry may decide to decline it and go in search of more lucrative offers elsewhere in the twilight of his career.
