Chelsea and RB Leipzig are allegedly close to finishing the paperwork required for Timo Werner to complete a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are allegedly on the brink of finalising the paperwork involved with the transfer of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

On Thursday night, it was widely reported that the Blues had activated the player's release clause, said to be in the region of £54m.

However, Leipzig sporting director Oliver Mintzlaff has denied that there is any agreement in place with Chelsea, who need to formally meet the required fee by June 15.

The Premier League outfit seemingly remain in line to sign the 24-year-old, though, with Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano suggesting that there has been no blip in the process.

Writing on Twitter, Romano said: "No contracts exchanged and nothing officially signed as Leipzig director told today, but Chelsea have a 'verbal agreement' with Timo Werner and they're convinced he's on his way to Stamford Bridge for next season. Paperworks are almost ready."

Werner has enjoyed an outstanding campaign, contributing 29 goals and 10 assists in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
