Jamie Carragher: 'Sacking Jose Mourinho would be a mistake'

Jamie Carragher believes that Chelsea would only be playing into the hands of their rivals by sacking Jose Mourinho following their poor start to the season.

Jamie Carragher has claimed that Chelsea would be committing a "serious mistake" if they sacked Jose Mourinho.

Reports have suggested that the Blues will fire the Portuguese should they lose to Liverpool in their Premier League clash later today following their poor start to the campaign.

However, Carragher is adamant that Roman Abramovich would be playing into the hands of their rivals in the top flight and across Europe by parting company with the 52-year-old.

He wrote in the Daily Mail: "They would be making a serious mistake. If Chelsea lose and the axe falls on Jose Mourinho, what would they hope to achieve by changing their manager once more?

"Less hassle and better results would be the simple answer. Many people are enjoying seeing how Mourinho is embroiled in the worst run of the Roman Abramovich era, and should Liverpool win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday the general feeling away from the King's Road will be delight if he is sacked.

"Ask yourself, however, why they would be delighted: it is because he is good, the best manager Chelsea have ever had. If he is sent on his way by Abramovich at this point of the season, Chelsea will be weaker and their rivals' chances of success will automatically be improved."

Chelsea are 15th in the Premier League ahead of the match against the Reds at Stamford Bridge.
