Chelsea's first-team squad reportedly form an opinion over whether they would like Mauricio Pochettino to remain in charge next season.

The majority of Chelsea's first-team squad would allegedly prefer for Mauricio Pochettino to remain as head coach next season.

When Pochettino arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer, he only penned a two-year contract, with the option of a third should the project be developing in an upward trajectory.

As it stands, the Blues have endured a mixed campaign under the Argentine, with the highlight being reaching the EFL Cup final before losing to Liverpool.

All eyes are now on whether Chelsea can end the season with a top-seven finish in the Premier League standings, the position required to earn European qualification for next season.

Chelsea currently sit in ninth, three points adrift of Newcastle with a game in hand but inferior goal difference, while Pochettino's side also need to respond positively to losing 5-0 at Arsenal on Tuesday night.

How do Chelsea's players feel about Pochettino?

Reports have indicated Pochettino's future at the West Londoners remains very much up in the air with the powers-that-be heading into the closing weeks of the season.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea's senior squad are eager to see Pochettino remain at the helm.

The report alleges that Pochettino's man-management of the squad has largely been appreciated during what has been a difficult campaign.

That is despite the 52-year-old having not been shy at times in revealing his frustration over the inconsistency of his young squad.

In the aftermath of the humbling at the Emirates Stadium, Pochettino acknowledged that his team had performed "so bad" during the second half of that fixture.

Are Chelsea's owners likely to take notice?

Having surprisingly disposed of the likes of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter when few people were expecting them to do so, there is a feeling that anything is possible under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Nevertheless, it has been indicated in a previous report that there is an acceptance Pochettino has not had a major say in the formation of a group of players that are largely under 25 and expected to deliver on their potential.

Furthermore, continuity over yet another change of approach may prove to be their preference, providing that Chelsea do not endure a poor end to the season.

Chelsea are next in action against Aston Villa on Saturday evening, needing a response having failed to score in their last two matches and having lost ground on the teams above them.
