Rudy Gestede earns point for Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers come back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw away to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

Blackburn Rovers came back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw away to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium this afternoon.

Gary Gardner scored his second goal in as many games to give the home side the lead, before Rudy Gestede continued his own goal-scoring form to level up after the break.

The first real chance for Rovers came through Tom Cairney when he got on the end of Ben Marhsall's deflected cross, but he was denied by an excellent stop by Christian Walton.

Rohan Ince tried his luck from range for the Seagulls, before Ryan Tunnicliffe dragged a 20-yard effort wide of the goal moments later.

The in-form Marshall was next to try his luck for Blackburn and his well-struck free kick flashed narrowly wide shortly after the half-hour mark.

With the first half petering out, Gardner claimed his second goal in a week as he met Jake Forster-Caskey's corner to open the scoring.

Gary Bowyer's side levelled things up six minutes after the break when Gestede headed home Markus Olsson's cross to net his 10th goal of the campaign.

Grant Hanley should have given his side the lead shortly after but the defender could only head wide from close range after more good work from Marshall and Gestede in the build-up.

Blackburn had two penalty appeals waved away in quick succession when Gardner appeared to handle it moments after Marshall had gone down inside the area.
