Gabi 'to leave Atletico Madrid for Qatar'

Atletico Madrid captain Gabi will join Qatari outfit Al-Sadd on a free transfer this summer, according to a report.

Atletico Madrid captain Gabi will reportedly join Qatari outfit Al-Sadd on a free transfer this summer.

The 34-year-old is currently in his second spell with Atletico, and has made 150 appearances for the Madrid giants over the last three seasons alone.

Diego Simeone has brought Rodri to the Wanda Metropolitano this summer, however, and it is understood that the Spaniard is seen as the long-term successor to Gabi.

According to Diario AS, Gabi has agreed a lucrative three-year contract with Al-Sadd, and will join former Barcelona captain Xavi at the Qatari club.

Gabi started his professional career with Atletico, and spent three years in the first team before a move to Real Zaragoza. The former Spain Under-21 international then returned to the Madrid giants in 2011.
