Atletico Madrid comfortably see off Deportivo La Coruna to continue unbeaten run

Saul Niguez, Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa help themselves to goals as Atletico Madrid ease to a 3-0 win over an out-of-form Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid have tightened their grip on second place in La Liga with a 3-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna at the Vicente Calderon.

The Rojiblancos, who move back to within eight points of leaders Barcelona thanks to the win, made sure of the result with two second-half goals to see off their out-of-sorts opponents.

Jose Maria Gimenez came close to opening the scoring 15 minutes in, only for his header to end narrowly over the crossbar for an Atleti side now unbeaten in eight games.

The breakthrough goal came just minutes later, though, as Saul Niguez charged into the box and capitalised on some slack defending to head the ball home.

Niguez turned provider soon after, but Yannick Ferreira Carrasco failed to convert when picked out by his teammate shortly before Jan Oblak was called into action at the other end of the field.

Atletico came within the width of the crossbar of doubling their advantage, yet while Carrasco was to be denied there was no stopping Antoine Griezmann, who beat the offside trap and swept the ball home.

It was then left to Angel Correa to put the icing on the cake late on, when he was given the task of tucking the ball into the corner of the net after chasing down a ball over the top.
