Sassuolo beat AC Milan at San Siro

Simeone Zaza scores the winner as Sassuolo record a 2-1 win over AC Milan at the San Siro.

Sassuolo came from behind to record a famous 2-1 win at AC Milan in Serie A on Tuesday.

It was Milan that made the brighter start to proceedings, with Jeremy Menez, Stephan El Shaarawy and Giacomo Bonaventura all having half-chances inside the opening eight minutes.

The hosts' early pressure paid off and they took the lead after nine minutes when Andrea Poli converted from close range following a mix-up inside the Sassuolo box.

The away side were level moments before the 30-minute mark, however, when Nicola Sansone converted a lofted cross from Domenico Berardi.

Alex had an opportunity to regain the lead for Milan three minutes later, but his powerful header was just diverted wide of the post.

Sassulo remained a constant threat down the other end, however, with Berardi firing just wide after finding space on the edge of the box.

Both sides struggled for chances in the early stages of the second period, with a couple of long-range free kicks from Riccardo Montolivo just about as close as either side came to adding to the scoring.

It was the visitors that took the lead after 68 minutes, however, when Simone Zaza converted a Berardi cross to send Sassulo 2-1 ahead at the San Siro.

Milan had a golden chance to level after 75 minutes, but Giampaolo Pazzini could only fire his effort straight at Andrea Consigli.

The result has moved Sassuolo into 10th position, while Milan remain seventh, two points off the top four.
