The Simpsons is renewed for two more seasons, ensuring that it will surpass the 750-episode mark.

The Simpsons has been renewed for another two seasons, ensuring that the long-running animation will remain on air until at least 2023.

The show, which started in 1989, already holds the record for the longest-running scripted primetime series in US history and the renewal for seasons 33 and 34 guarantees that it will pass the 750-episode milestone.

Announcing the news at the TCA Winter Press Tour, creator Matt Groening said: "Everyone at The Simpsons is thrilled to be renewed once more, and we are planning lots of big surprises.

"Homer will lose a hair, Milhouse will get contact lenses and Bart will celebrate his tenth birthday for the thirty-third time."

The Simpsons remains one of the signature shows on FOX in the US and currently ranks as the network's fourth most popular series.
