Starsky & Hutch star David Soul dies, aged 80
Actor and singer David Soul, known for Starsky & Hutch, dies at the age of 80.

David Soul, best known for his role in the detective series Starsky & Hutch, has died at the age of 80.

The actor and singer had a career spanning five decades, including playing the titular Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson in the drama between 1975 and 1979.

Soul also had two UK number one singles, reaching the summit in 1977 with 'Don't Give Up On Us' and 'Silver Lady'.

A statement on his social media read: "David Soul—beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother—died yesterday after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family.

"He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend. His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched."

Soul, who is believed to have been suffering from a long-term illness, is survived by wife Helen and six children.
