A new show for ITV will reportedly look to cast the new stars of the ABBA musical Mamma Mia!

The format previously ran on the BBC and found leading men and ladies in the TV shows Any Dream Will Do, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, I'd Do Anything and Superstar.

The new eight-part series - from Thames, makers of Britain's Got Talent - will turn its attention to Mamma Mia!, which has been a staple of the London theatre scene since 1999.

"ITV are clearly riding the wave of renewed interest in all things ABBA, not to mention a renewed interest in hit formats of old," a source told The Sun.

"This has been seen as an obvious choice for a reboot for years, but producers were waiting for the right musical and right moment."

The new show is expected to air on ITV at some point next year.
