The Masked Singer's Joel Dommett will reportedly host the new series of Survivor.

Joel Dommett has reportedly landed the role as host of the BBC's upcoming Survivor reboot.

The reality show - a huge hit in the US for more than two decades - previously aired on ITV for two series in 2001 and 2002, with Mark Austin and Mark Nicholas serving as respective hosts.

Dommett has made the move into primetime presenting in recent years with The Masked Singer and the National Television Awards for ITV, and now The Sun says that he has landed the plum gig with the BBC.

"He was offered the job just before Christmas and accepted almost immediately. It is his first BBC primetime role and is a huge leap for him," a source told the newspaper.

"Holly [Willoughby] was his closest competitor but is so busy it was hard for them to make the dates work.

"Joel was a massive fan of the original series and made that clear when approached. He really impressed with his passion, and work on The Masked Singer and The Masked Dancer.

"The BBC feel Survivor is going to be massive, and having Joel is the cherry on the cake."

The new series will be filmed in the Dominican Republic this spring for broadcast on BBC One in the autumn.

The Masked Singer continues Saturday nights on ITV1
