James Corden reveals that he will depart The Late Late Show next summer after eight and a half years.

James Corden has announced that he will leave The Late Late Show before summer 2023.

The 43-year-old has hosted the CBS talkshow since 2015 and was due to be out of contract this summer.

Both Corden and the network have been discussing a new deal for some time but the comedian has now decided to stay on for a further year then step down.

"It's been it's a really hard decision to leave because I'm so immensely proud of the show. I'm thrilled to be extending [for a year]," he told Deadline.

"I always thought I'd do it for five years and then leave and then I stayed on. I've really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure."

CBS president George Cheeks said: "Seven years ago, James Corden came to the US and took television by storm, with huge creative and comedic swings that resonated in a big way with viewers on-air and online.

"From Crosswalk the Musical to the legendary Carpool Karaoke, and every unique comedy segment he introduced, James has truly reimagined many elements of the late night format."

Corden's content from the show has been a runaway success on YouTube, amassing more than 12 billion views to date.
