Lauren Lyle will return as the titular detective-sergeant for a second series of Karen Pirie, ITV has confirmed.
The crime drama - based on the popular novels by Val McDermid - averaged an impressive 5.9m viewers across its three-episode first series last autumn and was one of the broadcaster's most-watched new dramas of 2022.
Series two is based on McDermid's A Darker Domain and sees Pirie reopen the case of an unsolved kidnap of a wealthy young heiress and her baby son back in 1985.
"I'm thrilled that we will continue the life of our fearless young detective Karen Pirie, and of course, her bumbag," said Lyle.
"I've known for a while how well the show has gone down behind the scenes so it's been a joy to see audiences want more."
She added: "I look forward to getting the gang back together and finally being able to answer the question: 'Please say there will be a season two?' with an 'Oh yes.'"
Filming on the three two-hour episodes will take place in Scotland in early 2024.
