ITV has commissioned a new six-part drama thriller set aboard an all-night flight from London to Beijing for a first run on streaming service ITVX.
Red Eye - from Doctor Who producer Bad Wolf - follows Jing Lusi's DC Hana Li, who is charged with escorting Dr Matthew Nolan (Richard Armitage) back to China, where he is accused of murdering a woman in a car crash.
Things soon start to go wrong on the flight, however, and when a fellow passenger dies Li starts to suspect that Nolan's life is in danger. Meanwhile, back in London, MI5 boss Madeline Delaney (Lesley Sharp) is starting to uncover an international conspiracy which may involve the British and Chinese governments.
ITV drama head Polly Hill said: "Red Eye is a brilliantly addictive thriller with an international story taking place on the red eye flight from Heathrow to Beijing.
"The story will have the audience gripped and continually surprised throughout. It's got a fantastic cast led by Jing Lusi and Richard Armitage, and we are delighted to be working with Bad Wolf on this exciting new show."
Red Eye is due to be filmed later this year and will premiere on ITVX in 2024.
