Doctor Alex George defends new Channel 4 show Naked Education as "incredible and life-changing".

Doctor Alex has defended new Channel 4 show Naked Education amid a rising number of complaints to TV regulator Ofcom.

The show, which airs in an 8pm timeslot, sees a group of teenagers presented with a series of fully-naked adults in an attempt to educate them about different body types.

Over 1,300 people have now filed complaints with Ofcom complaining that the format is inappropriate, and/or complaining about the broadcasting of full-frontal nudity before the watershed.

Taking to Instagram, George, who co-hosts the show with Anna Richardson and Yinka Bokinni, wrote: "The reason I am annoyed at myself is because we created something incredible and life changing with Naked Education, and I let the opinions of a minority of people (who almost certainly hadn't watched the show), distract from what a life changing program this is.

"What is wrong is having young people hurt themselves because of how they look, develop eating disorders and live a life of suffering. What is wrong, is being a doctor in A&E and healing the wounds of a young girl who has harmed themselves, again.

"Tears rolling behind my mask as I thought about the injustice of it all. Why are we doing this to our children? Those images never leave my mind.

"To make a real change in the world you have to rock the boat. If that means upsetting some people so that we don't continue on this dreadful trajectory of mental illness, so be it.

"I am proud of Naked Education. Thank you to all our brave and inspiring contributors. I think you should watch this series."

Channel 4 has also defended the series, with a spokesperson saying: "Naked Education is a balanced body-positive programme that aims to spark conversations and normalise all body types, champion people's differences and break down the stereotypes that huge numbers of people are exposed to on social media.

"All those who took part did so with appropriate consent and background checks, and received support throughout and after filming."

Naked Education continues Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
