Dean Sullivan, known for his iconic role as Jimmy Corkhill on Brookside, has died at the age of 68.
The actor was the longest-serving star on the now-defunct Channel 4 soap, playing Jimmy from 1986 until the show ended in 2003.
In a statement, Sullivan's family said that he had died "peacefully" in hospital on Wednesday after what they described as a "short illness".
"To millions he was and very much still is remembered as 'Jimmy', to family and friends he was 'Dino'," it read.
"Dean's family wants to thank Arrowe Park Hospital for their unwavering and consistent support. We ask that you respect their privacy in their time of grief."
Sullivan, who was previously diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018, is survived by four brothers and a sister.
