ITV announces the mystery cancellation of the British Soap Awards for 2024 but confirms that it will be back in 2025.

ITV has announced that the British Soap Awards has been cancelled next year.

The ceremony has aired on the broadcaster every year since 1999 - apart from in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic - and is always a solid performer in the ratings.

However, ITV has now mysteriously decided not to proceed with the 2024 ceremony but has confirmed that it will return in 2025.

A spokesperson told The Mirror: "The British Soap Awards won't be on air in 2024 but is set to return in 2025.

"The show was fantastically received in 2023, achieving consolidated figures of 2.9 million and doubling its audience year on year, so we look forward to the show's return."

Phillip Schofield served as host of the awards since 2006 but was dropped earlier this year just days before the 2023 ceremony following his sudden exit from This Morning.

Jane McDonald went on to preside as the presenter at the awards, where EastEnders took the gong for Best Soap.
