The BBC orders a third edition of Blue Planet and a documentary about deafness from Rose Ayling-Ellis.

The BBC has announced a third edition of its acclaimed natural history documentary Blue Planet.

The first edition aired in 2001 and used revolutionary underwater filming techniques to document marine life in new detail, then in 2017, Blue Planet II shone a spotlight on the shocking effects of plastic pollution on the world's oceans.

Blue Planet III promises to showcase "brand new and untold stories from magical underwater worlds" using even more advanced and cutting-edge filming technology.

Sir David Attenborough, 96, narrated the first two editions of Blue Planet but his involvement in the new series has not yet been confirmed.

The BBC has also commissioned one-off documentary Signs For Change, which will see EastEnders star and Strictly Come Dancing winner Rose Ayling-Ellis show viewers the daily challenges experienced by the deaf community.

Elsewhere, BBC Two has ordered a three-part series called Spy Wars: The Eighties which explores the conclusion of the Cold War.
