The BBC gives the go-ahead to Queen of Oz, a new comedy series devised by and starring Catherine Tate.

The BBC has commissioned a new comedy series created by and starring Catherine Tate called Queen of Oz.

In the show Tate plays Princess Georgiana, the party girl daughter of a fictional British royal family who lunges from one PR disaster to another.

In an effort to make her become more responsible, the King takes the unusual step of abdicating his throne in Australia only, forcing her to move down under and become Queen.

"It's time to roll out the red carpet. And hang up the bunting again," said Jon Petrie, director of comedy at the BBC.

"We're excited to have the multi-award-winning Catherine Tate back making another comedy for the BBC.

"Her work has been enjoyed by millions over the years and we look forward to working with her on another hit for us."

The show - a co-pro with ABC Australia - will begin filming in Australia later this year.
