New Zealand soap Shortland Street returns to UK audiences after an absence of more than 13 years.

New Zealand soap Shortland Street has been picked up by Amazon's Freevee service in the UK.

The medical drama - on air since 1992 - was previously broadcast by ITV between 1993 and 2003, with several episodes then airing on the now-defunct Living channel for a brief period in 2010.

Earlier this year Amazon revived Aussie soap Neighbours, with new episodes streaming on Freevee in the UK, and now the streamer has moved to add Shortland Street to its offering too.

All episodes broadcast in New Zealand in 2021 and 2022 - more than 500 episodes - are now available on Freevee, although it is currently unclear whether previous seasons, or new episodes, will be added in the future.

Shortland Street remains one of New Zealand's most popular shows, with an average audience of 1.5 million out of a population of around 5 million.
