GB News peaks at over 1 million viewers on New Year's Eve

GB News records its best ever audience, with more than 1 million viewers tuning in for coverage of London's New Year's Eve celebrations.

GB News recorded its best ever viewing figures on New Year's Eve, with more than 1 million viewers tuning in as 2023 turned into 2024.

The channel - launched in summer 2021 - has previously gone off air as usual at midnight but in 2023 broadcast a special live programme, fronted by comedian Andrew Doyle, between 10pm and 12.30am.

The show's audience shot up significantly at midnight for coverage of the annual fireworks display from Westminster in London, rising significantly from around 24,000 viewers in a matter of minutes.

According to data supplied to Media Mole by overnights.tv, GB News had a peak of 1.01m viewers - a 5.9% share of the TV audience - at 00.11 in the early hours of Monday, although the figures then tailed off as the fireworks display came to an end a few minutes later.

The news marks a new milestone for the upstart channel, which according to the latest data has carved out an average audience share of 0.56%, compared to Sky News' 0.84%, BBC News' 1.21% and TalkTV's 0.17%.
