Jeff Bridges reveals that he has been diagnosed with lymphoma but his prognosis is "good".

Veteran actor Jeff Bridges has announced that he is battling lymphoma, a form of cancer, but his prognosis is "good".

The 70-year-old - winner of the best actor Oscar for his role as an alcoholic singer in Crazy Heart - revealed the news in a post on Twitter late on Monday.

"As the Dude would say.. New S**T has come to light," he wrote.

"I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good.

"I'm starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery.

"I'm profoundly grateful for the love and support from my family and friends.

"Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. And, while I have you, please remember to go vote. Because we are all in this together. http://Vote.org"

Bridges, known for films including King Kong, Tron, The Big Lebowski and The Last Picture Show, will next be seen in new FX TV drama The Old Man playing a former spy being targeted for assassination.
