The Weeknd announced that his gig in California on Saturday night had been cancelled three songs into his performance.

The Weeknd cancelled a gig in Inglewood, California on Saturday night three songs into his performance.

The singer was performing 'Can't Feel My Face' to a sold-out crowd at the SoFi Stadium when he left the stage, before returning shortly afterwards to explain that he had lost his voice.

"I'm going to make sure everyone is good, you'll get your money back," he told the crowd, some of whom responded negatively to his announcement. "But I'll do a show real soon for you guys."

Later he took to social media, explaining: "My voice went out during the first song and I'm devastated. Felt it go and my heart dropped. My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I'll make it up to you with a new date."

The Weeknd is next due to perform in Sweden and Toronto later this month.
