Rod Stewart has launched a surprising attack on Ed Sheeran, branding his fellow singer "old ginger bollocks".

The veteran musician, 79, was speaking in an interview for The Times when he attempted to praise George Ezra.

"I like whatshisname. Oh fucking great, Rod. Well done. He's British, really talented and his songs will be around. Erm..." he said.

After the interviewer suggested that he was thinking of Ed Sheeran - one of the world's best-selling artists - he replied: "No, not Ed, I don't know any of his songs, old ginger bollocks. Jesus..."

Of Ezra, he added: "I think he writes really tremendous songs. He'll be around for quite a while."

Stewart has been in the music business for more than 60 years, during which time he has sold more than 120 million records worldwide and accrued 10 number one albums and 31 top-ten singles in the UK.
