James Cameron has revealed that his script for the proposed fourth Avatar movie left studio executives speechless.
The first sequel to the original movie is finally released - some 13 years later - this week, and has already earned rave reviews from critics.
The third film has already been shot and will be out in 2024, with the scripts for the fourth and a final fifth movie having been completed some time ago.
"I can't tell you the details, but all I can say is that when I turned in the script for 2, the studio gave me three pages of notes," Cameron told Collider.
"And when I turned in the script for 3, they gave me a page of notes, so I was getting better.
"When I turned in the script for 4, the studio executive, the creative executive over the films, wrote me an email that said, 'Holy fuck.'
"And I said, 'Well, where are the notes?' And she said, 'Those are the notes.' Because it kind of goes nuts in a good way, right?"
Although some filming has already been completed on the fourth movie for logistical reasons, the studio plans to wait to officially give it the go-ahead until box office receipts are known for the new film.
