A special Christmas edition of MasterChef will see five of the show's regular food critics compete in a cook-off.

Five of MasterChef's regular food critics are to compete against each other in the kitchen for a one-off special episode this Christmas.

In MasterChef: Battle of the Critics 2023, Grace Dent, Jay Rayner, William Sitwell, Leyla Kazim and Jimi Famurewa will have their own culinary skills tested over two rounds.

To win the 'Golden Cutlery' trophy and become the inaugural Critics Champion, they must impress Gregg Wallace and John Torode, plus a table of MasterChef champions - Ping Coombes (2014), Kenny Tutt (2018) and Nikita Pathakji (Professionals 2022).

Also airing this Christmas is the annual Celebrity MasterChef: Christmas Cook-Off, which this year will feature returning contestants Mel Blatt, Faye Winter, Duncan James and Richard Blackwood.

The first challenge will see them cook an Australia-inspired dish from a Secret Santa Mystery Box for special guest Peter Andre, after which they will have to impress with their 'Ultimate Christmas Dinner' to take home the Golden Whisk.

Both shows will air on BBC One and iPlayer over the festive period.
