Jeremy Edwards says that he will return to Hollyoaks in the near future, weeks after ruling out ever making a comeback.

Jeremy Edwards has revealed that he will return to Hollyoaks in the near future, just weeks after ruling out the prospect of a comeback.

The 50-year-old made a shock return to the village as original character Kurt Benson last autumn to mark the soap's 25th anniversary, despite the character having been seemingly killed off in 1999.

Kurt's reappearance, explained as him having faked his own death, lasted a matter of weeks before he left again - and in a previous interview, Edwards described the storyline as "a shit show".

Now Edwards appears to have changed his mind on working on the show again, telling OK! magazine: "I just got in a mood and was reacting because people were being mean on social media.

"People expect me to look like I did when I was 22, which is ridiculous. Then I saw it and thought, 'Oh God, I look awful and heavy'. I've dropped loads of weight now. I think I look slimmer and I'm happier for it."

He added: "What I was doing got cut short because of COVID. I will be back at some point but I can't say more than that.

"They've had to cut the numbers of actors they can use on set so it's hard to bring people back and do big storylines. It's just playing a waiting game."

Hollyoaks continues weeknights on Channel 4 and E4.
